Macklemore joined English
singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran to perform the hit gay marriage anthem
Same Love over the weekend at the iHeartRadio Festival in Las
Vegas.
The 23-year-old Sheeran quietly began
with the song's hook – “I can't change, even if I tried, even if
wanted to. My love, she keeps me warm” – then asked the audience
to welcome Macklemore to the stage.
“Make some noise for Macklemore!”
Sheeran
told the audience.
“SURPRISE!!!!!” iHeartRadio
tweeted. “@macklemore joins @edsheeran on stage for #SameLove at
the iHeartRadio Music Festival.”
After the performance, Macklemore
messaged: “Huge thanks to my brother edsheeran for bringing me out
tonight at the @iheartradio festival in Vegas! I'm very grateful to
be a part of his set. … Now it's time to lose some money! I'm
spending Ed's paper.”
“Much love to @macklemore for hopping
on stage with me tonight,” Sheeran tweeted.
A Grammys
performance of Same
Love
featured Queen Latifah officiating over the weddings of 33
couples, some of whom were of the same sex. While Macklemore &
Ryan Lewis took home four prizes that night, Same Love lost
the award for Song of the Year to Royals by Lorde.
