Televangelist Pat Robertson on Thursday advised a woman to seek a male mentor for her son who is “having crushes on boys.”

Robertson, an ardent opponent of gay rights, made his remarks during The 700 Club's Bring It On-Line segment, in which he answers viewers' questions.

“Recently my step-son told us that he is having crushes on boys,” a viewer named Kristi wrote. “He is 13 and lives with his mother most of the time. How do we approach the situation? What are the next steps we should take? We have 2 other boys, ages 3 and 1. What is your suggestion?”

After dismissing the idea that sexual orientation is innate, Robertson advised a father figure for the boy.

“His attraction is now toward other men because he's [being] raised by a woman,” Robertson said.

“I would get him male companions. I'd get him some man to help him, some mentor, someone who cares about young men.”

“He is being raised by a single woman and that is skewing his orientation,” Robertson added. (The video is embedded on this page. Visit our video library for more videos.)
