Sony Pictures Classics on Friday
released Love is Strange in select cities.
In the film directed by Ira Sachs, Ben
(played by John Lithgow) and George (Alfred Molina) marry in
Manhattan after 39 years together. The nuptials cause Ben to lose
his job as a longtime choir director for a co-ed Catholic school.
Friends and family come together to help the couple get back on their
feet. (The film's trailer is embedded on this page. Visit
our video library for more videos.)
Sony acquired all North American,
German and Scandinavian rights to the film after its world premiere
at the Sundance Film Festival in Utah.
The film won over critics at the
festival.
“Love is Strange emerges as a
total triumph for Sachs and his co-leads, John Lithgow and Alfred
Molina, who, despite lengthy filmographies, turn in career-topping
work,” Time
Out reviewer Joshua Rothkopf said in awarding the film five
stars.
Marisa Tomei, Cheyenne Jackson, Darren
Burrows and Charlie Tahan also appear in the film.
