Trevor Burgess has made history as the
first openly gay chief executive of a publicly listed bank.
According to The
New York Times, Burgess is married to Gary Hess.
Burgess' C1 Bank of St. Petersburg,
Florida went public Thursday morning on the New York Stock Exchange.
Burgess told the paper that he's been
out since he was a teenager.
“I can't play football or basketball,
but I am good at business,” said Burgess, who also spent a decade
at Morgan Stanley. “Hopefully, I can be a good role model.”
John Browne, who resigned as chief
executive of British oil giant BP after he was outed in 2007 and is the
author of The
Glass Closet: Why Coming Out is Good For Business, said:
“Role models like Trevor prove that being open and authentic is no
barrier to success.”
