Actress Emily Clara Rios, who is best
known for her portrayal of Andrea Cantillo on AMC's Breaking Bad,
has come out lesbian.
Rios, whose credits also include the
coming out film Quinceanera, currently plays newspaper
reporter Adriana Mendez on the FX series The Bridge, now in
its second season.
In season one of The Bridge,
Rios' character was revealed to be gay, and viewers first caught
sight of her girlfriend, Lucy (played by Alyssa Diaz), during the
show's second season premiere.
In discussing the role with lesbian
entertainment blog After Ellen, Rios, 25, acknowledged for the
first time publicly her own sexuality.
“I want it to be an incidental
thing,” Rios said of her character's sexuality, “which is what
happens in our everyday life.”
“I wanted to make sure the whole
lesbian aspect wasn't this whole coming out story and the character
wasn't going to be made more flamboyant in any sort of way,” she
said.
“I'm gay, personally, so being
Mexican and a lesbian – this is why I love the character, because I
deal with the same type of things with my own family. … For my
family, my mom didn't want me to live a difficult life. She brought
me here for a better one. So she's like, 'Your coming out … I
don't want this to be this. I want you to be comfortable.'”
