Actress Laverne Cox has called Whoopi
Goldberg an “inspiration as an actor.”
Earlier this month, Cox, who plays a
transgender character on Netflix's hit comedy Orange is the New
Black, made history as the first transgender actress to be
nominated for an Emmy Award.
Appearing on ABC's The View, she
told Goldberg that she loves her.
“You've been a huge inspiration to me
as an actor. Ten years ago when I was studying with my acting mentor
Susan Batson … I was sort of frustrated with, like, you know, I
don't look like anybody else, and she would say, 'Whoopi didn't look
like anybody else but the talent, the intelligence, and the humor got
her there.'”
“And so, if Whoopi can do it, anybody
can do it,” Cox
added.
In ending the segment, Goldberg told
Cox to “kick that career's butt, because you've got what everybody
needs.”
