Anna Paquin, star of the HBO
supernatural drama True Blood, says the “hateful” backlash
to her coming out bisexual was expected.
The 31-year-old Paquin first publicly
came out bisexual in a 2010 PSA for the WeGiveADamn campaign.
“I'm Anna Paquin. I'm bisexual,”
she said in the PSA. “And I give a damn.”
Paquin, who at the time was engaged to
marry Stephen Moyer, her True Blood co-star, was criticized
for the move.
“There's people who are probably
going to go to their grave thinking whatever they think about the
LGBT community,” Paquin said during an appearance on HuffPost
Live. “That's their problem, not mine.”
“I know there are a lot of hateful
people in the world who have strong opinions. You know when you
stick your neck out on certain topics that some people are going to
go “yay!” and some people are going to say some of the most vile
things that you can imagine.”
