Bob Vander Plaats, president of the
Iowa-based Christian conservative group The Family Leader, introduced
a video at a religious revival event on Sunday which linked gay
rights, terrorism, mass shootings and gambling.
At the event, titled The If 7:14
Call after his just-released book If 7:14 about the
“urgent call for revival” in America, Vander Plaats introduced
the video by saying, “Things are getting eerily dark.”
The video includes a montage of images,
including images of terrorist attacks (9-11 and the Boston Marathon
bombings), mass shootings (Sandy Hook), gambling, Justice Anthony
Kennedy, the national debt, rallies in support of legalizing
marijuana, the legalization of gay marriage in Minnesota, and the Boy
Scouts' admittance of openly gay youth. (The video is embedded on
this page. Visit
our video library for more videos.)
Vander Plaats and his organization led
the backlash against the 2009 Iowa Supreme Court ruling that struck
down the state's marriage ban. The group spearheaded unsuccessful
efforts to amend the Iowa Constitution to define marriage as a
heterosexual union and campaigned for the ouster of the high court's
elected judges.
The Family Leader's annual Family
Leadership Summit taking place next month will feature Senators Tim
Scott and Ted Cruz, Mike Huckabee, Rick Santorum, and Governors Bobby
Jindal and Rick Perry.
