Actress Keira Knightley's has named
Kathleen Hanna from Le Tigre/The Julie Ruin as her girl crush.
Knightley, who is best known for
playing Elizabeth Swann in the Pirates of the Caribbean films,
told gay glossy The
Advocate that growing up she was surrounded by gay people.
“A lot of my mum's and my dad's
friends are gay, so I've been around gay men and women for as long as
I can remember,” Knightley said. “My mum actually used to march
in support of gay people in Scotland in the ’60s and ’70s. It's
always been the complete norm for me, like a wonderful fact of life.”
When the interviewer asked, “You've
worked with some of the most beautiful actresses in the world. Who's
your girl crush?” Knightley answered Kathleen Hanna.
“I just watched The Punk Singer,
the documentary about Kathleen Hanna from Bikini Kill, so I actually
have to go with her. She might be my top girl crush of all time,
really. I love a riot grrrl,” she said.
After Bikini Hill disbanded in 1997,
Hanna, 45, fronted Le Tigre and since 2010 The Julie Ruin, which
released its first
Come On last year.
