Appearing on The Tonight Show,
Jonah Hill offered an emotional apology for using a gay slur during
an encounter caught on tape.
The 30-year-old Hill supposedly yelled
“Suck my dick, you faggot” to a photographer following him over
the weekend.
He told Howard Stern that he “lost
his cool” after the photographer had badgered him all day.
During his Tonight Show appearance,
Hill said he used a “grotesque” word.
“You know, I didn't mean this in the
sense of the word. I didn't mean it in a homophobic way,” Hill
told host Jimmy Fallon. “I think that that doesn't matter. How
you mean things, doesn't matter. Words have weight and meaning. And
the word I chose was grotesque. No one deserves to say or hear words
like that. I've been a supporter of the LGBTQ community my entire
life. And I complete let the members of that community and everyone
else down when I used a word like that this weekend. My heart's
broken. And I genuinely am deeply sorry to anyone who has ever been
affected by that term in their life.” (The video is embedded on

Last year, Hill tweeted a picture of
himself wearing an HRC shirt in support of LGBT Russians. The shirt
read “Love Conquers Hate” in Russian.
