Massachusetts Republican candidate for
governor Charlie Baker reiterates his support for marriage equality
in a new ad released Saturday.
The 2-minute ad's release coincided
with the tenth anniversary of same-sex marriage in Massachusetts.
(Released: Massachusetts
celebrates ten years of gay marriage.)
In the ad, Baker and his brother Alex
discuss the moment Alex came out gay to his brother.
Charlie Baker remembers his brother
asking, “What would you say if your brother told you he was gay?”
and him answering, “I'd say it's no big deal.”
Alex, who married his partner 10 years
ago, said of marriage equality in Massachusetts: “Ten years has
passed since that happened. And Massachusetts hasn't fallen apart,
the institution of marriage in Massachusetts isn't crumbling because
of gay marriage, and part of me just keeps hoping that the rest of
the country can look at Massachusetts and say, you know, it isn't
that big a deal.” (The video is embedded on this page. Visit

In his 2010 unsuccessful bid for
governor, Baker chose Richard R. Tisei, an openly gay lawmaker, as
his running mate. This year, Tisei is running for Congress with the
support of House Speaker John Boehner.
