Sid Cordle, the leader of the Christian
People's Alliance, has said God is angry over gay marriage.
During an appearance on BBC Two's Daily
Politics, Cordle was asked whether he agrees with views expressed
by former UKIP politician David Silvester.
Silvester said in an op-ed that he had
warned Prime Minister David Cameron back in 2012 that allowing gay
couples to marry would results in “disasters” and blamed severe
winter storms on passage of a marriage law.
“The scriptures make it abundantly
clear that a Christian nation that abandons its faith and acts
contrary to the Gospel (and in naked breach of a coronation oath)
will be beset by natural disasters such as storms, disease,
pestilence and war,” Silvester wrote.
“A lot of Christians believe that God
is angry over gay marriage and God can actually show that anger,”
Cordle said on the program.
“I think where councilor David
Silvester was wrong was to be adamant that this is the case. If he
had said, 'I think it's possible that this could be the case', I
think then the majority of Christians – I would certainly agree
with that. It is possible,” Cordle said. (The video is embedded
