Televangelist Pat Robertson on Thursday
advised a woman to love her niece by refusing to accept that she is
gay.
Robertson, an ardent opponent of gay
rights, made his remarks during The 700 Club's Bring It
On-Line segment, in which he answers viewers' questions.
“My niece just graduated from a
Catholic university and has now come out as a homosexual,” a viewer
named Carol wrote. “How should I, as a Christian, respond to the
situation if and when I meet her partner at family functions and at
holidays?”
“You want to be loving and warm and
let them know that you love them,” Robertson answered. “But you
cannot accept it and you cannot be an enabler. If they're living
together as a homosexual and you're a Christian, you cannot say, 'I
accept this lifestyle.'”
“Right now, there's an incredible
barrage of activity forcing people to accept the homosexual
lifestyle.”
“Do we accept adultery? Do we accept
fornication? Do we accept immorality?” he
rhetorically asked. “I don't think we ought to be accepting of
it.”
“But you need to always have love.
You know, homosexuals have an enormous capacity for artistic
expression … and very talented people.” (The video is embedded
