Televangelist Pat Robertson on Thursday
told a viewer that there are no gay examples in the Bible.
Robertson, an ardent opponent of gay
rights, made his remarks during The 700 Club's Bring It
On-Line segment, in which he answers viewers' questions.
“Biblically, if we accept that all
scriptures are inspired by God, could you tell me one biblical
character, Old or New Testament, that God used who was openly
homosexual?” a viewer named Scott asked. “Secondly, where in
scripture is an example of homosexual marriage?”
“Answer: None,” Robertson said of
the first question.
“There is none. None,” he answered
of the second question.
“You gotta be biblical. This is an
unnatural relationship,” Robertson added at the prompting of
co-host Terry Meeuwsen before quoting scripture. “For this cause
shall a man leave his father and mother, cleave to his wife, the
twain will be one flesh. Marriage is to bring forth godliest
children. That's what it says. And God hates divorce, because he
wants godly offspring to come in to the kingdom of God. That's what
he wants. Homosexuality you're not going to provide it.” (The
