Premium cable network HBO on Sunday
released the first trailer for the upcoming film adaptation of The
Normal Heart, Larry Kramer's Tony-winning AIDS play.
HBO will premiere the film on Sunday,
May 25.
The film's all-star cast includes Mark
Ruffalo, Matt Bomer, Taylor Kitsch, Jim Parsons and Julia Roberts.
Ryan Murphy (Glee, Eat Pray Love)
directed the feature length film, which is based on a script written
by Larry Kramer (Women in Love).
Ruffalo – a co-star of the 2010
lesbian moms flick The Kids Are Alright – will tackle his
first gay role playing Ned Weeks, the hero of Kramer's play about the
early days of the AIDS pandemic in New York City.
“We have to do something,”
Ruffalo's Weeks is seen saying in the clip. “Nobody else will.”
In another shot, an emotional Weeks
screams: “I am trying to understand why nobody gives a shit that
