Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson has called Michael Sam's coming out “courageous.”

The 24-year-old Sam is a solid NFL prospect.

In interviews with ESPN and The New York Times last month, Sam announced that he's gay. If drafted, Sam would become the NFL's first openly gay player.

Appearing on HuffPost Live, Wilson, 25, told host Marc Lamont Hill that he respected Sam's decision.

“Definitely a bold move,” Wilson said of Sam's coming out before entering the draft. “I think the fact that he's that courageous, though. You know, you have a lot of respect for that.”

“At the end of the day, as long as that guy has that same mind set of winning and being a champion, that's what we want.”

When Hill asked whether Wilson anticipated any problems for Sam in the locker room, Wilson answered: “I think there won't be a problem at all with Michael Sam.” (The video is embedded on this page. Visit our video library for more videos.)
