At a press conference on Saturday,
Michael Sam said he wishes the press would focus on “Michael Sam
the football player” and not his sexual orientation.
The 24-year-old Sam is among the 335
NFL prospects participating in the league's Scouting Combine this
week.
In interviews with ESPN and The New
York Times earlier this month, Sam announced that he's gay. If
drafted, Sam would become the NFL's first openly gay player.
“I wish you guys would see me as
Michael Sam the football player,” Sam said during Saturday's
presser at Lucas Oil Stadium. “Instead of Michael Sam the gay
football player.”
Sam added that he had received a lot of
