Singer Katy Perry on Friday debuted a PSA by (We Are) #GayPropaganda.

Each month an artist helms Art for Freedom, an awareness campaign created by Madonna and Vice Magazine and aimed at exposing human rights violations. Perry took the reigns for January.

“Thx @Madonna for having me curate #ArtForFreedom this month!” Perry tweeted to her more than 50 million followers. “Check out my last pick, @GayPropaganda 'The Peace Sign.'”

(We Are) #GayPropaganda is a social media campaign that connects art and images to redefine “gay propaganda.”

The campaign's The Peace Sign is the third in a series of videos recreating images in the news of violence against Russia's LGBT community.

In the 1-minute video, a gay rights activist makes the peace sign as he is carted off by authorities. (The video is embedded on this page. Visit our video library for more videos.)

“I am so fortunate to have the freedom to express myself through music,” said Perry. “I believe that 2014 can be a year of great social change. Together we can all stand up for Human Rights. Join the conversation, and let your art be your voice.”
