Tony Perkins, president of the Family
Research Council (FRC), has likened making Christian-owned businesses
serve gays to forcing gays to attend church.
“How would it be if Christians
marched into a gay bar and demanded that the owner of that bar go to
church with them. And use the threat of government action against
them to get them to go. You see that's ridiculous. That's
essentially what is happening here. People are losing their
religious freedom,” Perkins said.
Perkins was referring to several recent
court cases in which business owners refused to serve gays citing
Christian beliefs.
“It's ridiculous and a completely
absurd equation,” David Pakman said on his Internet show, “because
freedom of religion exists but it doesn't extend, for example, to
killing people, which is in the Bible, or stoning non-virgins on
their wedding day, which is in the Bible, or it being illegal to eat
shrimp, which is in the Bible – not illegal but certainly an
abomination.”
“Lots of gay people already go to
church, so his equation is absurd for a number of reasons,” Pakman
added. (The video is embedded on this page. Visit
