Ellen DeGenere's daytime talk show, The
Ellen DeGeneres Show, will be the first U.S. program of its kind
to air in China.
“Ni hao! Ni hao. Ni hao, y'all!”
DeGeneres greeted her audience on Tuesday. “It's basically the
same show, but it will have subtitles and be called The Happy Lady
Dance Hour.”
Sohu Video will broadcast the show in
China, Warner Bros., which distributes the show in the United States,
said in announcing the agreement.
“Ellen has clearly differentiated
herself and her talk show from so many of the controversial
conflict-oriented talk shows,” said Jeffrey Schlesinger, president
of Warner Bros. Worldwide Television Distribution. “She has an
unmatched and unique brand of family-friendly humor and love of pop
culture that appeals to audiences of all ages in a very fun one-hour
of programming.”
The 55-year-old DeGeneres came out gay
in 1997. She married actress Portia de Rossi in California in 2008.
