Actor Bryan Cranston, known for playing
Walter White on Breaking Bad, has released a statement in
support of New Mexico Unites for Marriage, the group working to
defend a recent state supreme court ruling legalizing gay marriage in
New Mexico.
“I support the work of New Mexico
Unites for Marriage to ensure that all couples have the privilege of
committing legally and publicly to the institution of marriage,”
Cranston said.
A New Mexico Supreme Court ruling
handed down last month moved New Mexico into the marriage equality
column. But proposed legislation threatens to strip away the right.
State Senator William Sharer, a
Republican, has introduced a bill aimed at altering the state's
constitution to define marriage as only a heterosexual union.
Cranston and his family endorsed
marriage equality in a
2012 HRC video.
