Mitt Romney, the 2012 Republican
candidate for president, remains opposed to gay marriage.
In a wide-ranging interview with The
Washington Post following
the Sundance Film Festival premiere of MITT,
the documentary about his failed presidential campaigns,
Romney was asked his thoughts on a recent federal ruling in Utah that
struck down the state's voter-approved constitutional amendment
limiting marriage to heterosexual couples.
“In Utah, on this same-sex marriage
issue, a federal judge ruled last month to overturn the ban and make
marriages legal. I'm wondering if you agree with that decision, or
do you think same-sex marriages should not be legal in this state?”
the Post asked.
“I have the same position that I've
had when I was governor and when I ran as president,” Romney, 66,
answered. “I believe marriage should be between one man and one
woman. We'll see how the courts deal with this, but that's the
position I have and will continue to have.”
