Two “ex-gay” groups fighting laws
which ban therapies aimed at converting teens from gay to straight
have released a 30-minute documentary on the causes of homosexuality.
The documentary, titled Understanding
Same-Sex Attraction, was produced by NARTH and Family Watch
International, both of which have opposed laws in New Jersey and
California that make it illegal to attempt to alter a teen's sexual
orientation.
Right
Wing Watch wrote of the movie: “In the film, NARTH psychologist
and self-proclaimed 'ex-gays' – some of them with their faces
blurred out for privacy – push any number of anti-gay myths,
including that homosexuality is caused by sexual abuse, absent
fathers, and overbearing mothers.”
In releasing the documentary, Family
Watch stated that it wanted to help the public better understand the
subject, “because we care and are concerned about those who
struggle with unwanted same-sex attraction, and want to preserve hope
for those who seek help.”
