Peter LaBarbera, president of Americans
for Truth about Homosexuality, has praised Virginia Rep. Randy
Forbes' efforts to convince Republican leaders not to back two openly
gay GOP candidates.
The campaigns of Carl DeMaio, a former
San Diego city councilman, and Richard Tisei, who in 2012 narrowly
lost a congressional bid in Massachusetts, a Democratic stronghold,
have received contributions from House GOP leaders and Speaker John
Boehner publicly campaigned for Tisei last year.
Forbes, whose name is being bandied
about as a possible candidate for the powerful House Armed Services
Committee chairmanship, said that he was concerned
that House members would be asked to contribute to the campaigns,
according to POLITICO.
“The Republican Party platform is
opposed for the most part to homosexual activism, especially gay so-called marriage,” LaBarbera told AFA's One
News Now. “So Forbes understands that the Republican Party
should not be in the business of promoting candidates that are going
to promote sexual immorality.”
“It's disappointing to see House
Speaker Boehner and other prominent Republicans backing openly
homosexual candidates, because these candidates are not going to
serve the interest of the Republican Party if the party still claims
to be pro-family,” he added.
