Actress Maria Bello announced last week
that she's gay.
In an op-ed titled Coming Out as a
Modern Family published in
The New York Times, Bello, 46, explained how she told her son
Jackson from a marriage to Dan McDermott that ended in 2006 that she
was seeing a woman romantically.
Bello, it turned out, was dating a
woman Jackson already knew and thought of as family.
“My feelings for Clare aren't the
same as the butterflies-in-the-stomach, angst-ridden love I have felt
before; they are much deeper than that,” Bello
wrote.
After Jackson, 12, asked whether she
was seeing anyone and Bello told him who it was, Jackson replied:
“Mom, love is love, whatever you are.”
“So I would like to consider myself a
'whatever,' as Jackson said. Whomever I love, however I love them,
whether they sleep in my bed or not, or whether I do homework with
them or share a child with them, 'love is love.' And I love our
modern family.”
Bello's most recent film is Prisoners.
