Olympian Johnny Weir's husband Victor
Voronov was closeted until two months before the couple married in
New York City in 2011.
Appearing on Bethenny Frankel's talk
show, Bethenny, Voronov said that his engagement also served
as a coming out to friends and family.
“Before we got married, he was
actually in the closet until about two months before we were
married,” Weir told Frankel.
“Oh my god, what?” Frankel
screamed.
“Yeah, I was in the closet,” said
Voronov, a lawyer. “I told my family a month before we got
married. And then my friends only found out in People
magazine ...”
“That's crazy,” Frankel said.
Voronov said that he knew he was gay
“probably since I was the age of about 6 or 8.”
Frankel joked that Voronov came out to
date “the gayest person alive.”
“Mom, I just want to let you know
that I'm gay and I married the gay person in the dictionary when you
look up the word gay. I married that guy,” Frankel said, imitating
Voronov.
Voronov added that everyone, including
his “tough Soviet” father, was supportive. (The video is
