Family Research Council (FRC), the
Christian conservative group headed by Tony Perkins, is calling on
members to pray against passage of the Employment Non-Discrimination
Act (ENDA), which seeks to prohibit workplace discrimination based on
sexual orientation and gender identity.
ENDA cleared the Senate Health,
Education, Labor and Pensions Committee in July. Three Republicans –
Senators Mark Kirk of Illinois, Lisa Murkowski of Alaska and Orrin
Hatch of Utah – joined all Democrats in sending the bill to the
full Senate. The Senate could take up the bill as early as this
month.
“May God's people pray and fast for
God to excise the root of our nation's sexual immorality, extreme as
it has become,” the
group wrote in its latest round of “prayer targets.” “May
believers repent and show zeal for God's honor that overshadows the
activists who seek special legal status and benefits for what the
Bible calls abomination. May ENDA be stopped in its tracks!”
