In his first televised interview since coming out gay, WWE's
Darren Young said he was in love and living his dream.
The 29-year-old Young came out gay to a TMZ camera crew on
Wednesday.
“I'm gay. And I'm very happy,” he said.
The WWE said in a statement that it was proud of Young: “WWE is
proud of Darren Young for being open about his sexuality, and we will
continue to support him as a WWE Superstar.”
Appearing
on NBC's Today, Young discussed why he felt it was the
right time to come out.
“I felt like it was the right place and the right time,” Young
told host Matt Lauer. “I feel by coming out I'm going to make a
big difference in a lot of people's lives. I've been suppressing
these feelings for so long in my life, you know, I'm going to be 30
on November 2, and I just need to be happy. Until the day I'm six
feet under, I will always say I want to be happy, and I'm happy now.”
“I have the best of both worlds. I'm in love, and I wrestle for
one of the greatest organizations in the world, the WWE, and I'm a
lucky man,” he added.
