Next Sunday when Kevin Walker marries
his boyfriend Scotty Wandell on ABC's prime time drama Brothers &
Sisters we will be witnessing more than a marriage, we will be
watching gay history – it will be first such union on prime time
network television between series regulars.
The couple's wedding (technically a
domestic partnership in California) will cap off season two of the
series.
Rumors about a wedding started to
surface when Luke MacFarlane who plays Scotty was asked to become a
cast member of the show. Since then MacFarlane has outed himself and
is currently the only out actor playing a gay role on network
television.
Kevin Walker's character has been gay
since the show's inception. Recently Uncle Saul (played by Ron
Rifkin) also has come out on the show, giving the drama a cast of
three male gay regulars. Brothers & Sisters then has the
distinction of having the highest number of gay characters on network
prime time.
All these gay characters surely caught
the eye of gay media watchers GLAAD (Gay & Lesbian Alliance
Against Defamation) who recently honored the show with a Media Award
for outstanding drama series.
Brothers & Sisters airs
Sundays on ABC.
On The CW's Gossip Girl a gay
bomb hits the show as a member of the cast comes out – and becomes
the gossip. We already know who's coming out, it's Serena's brother
Eric (played by Blake Lively). The May 5th episode titled
All About My Brother places
Eric in a compromising position.
Gossip Girl airs Mondays on The
CW.
