In a touching It Gets Better video,
members of the Out & Allied Employee Resource Group of NASA's
Johnson Space Center discuss how it got better for them.
The It Gets Better Project encourages
bullied LGBT teens considering suicide to hang in there, because life
eventually gets better.
“A classmate of mine, when I was a
freshman in high school was rumored to be dating a senior girl and
that her car was vandalized,” a female employee says. “And I
found it, it was intensely upsetting. And I remember going to talk
to a counselor about my feelings, being very upset about that. And
she looked me in the eye and told me that that was what she got for
being different, which helped me to understand that my questions and
my feelings needed to stay very deep inside of me.”
The nearly 10 minute video includes
testimony from dozens of employees.
“Being gay doesn't necessarily define
you,” a male employee says. “It's just one factor of who you
are. At NASA, I'm able to be an engineer. I'm able to be gay. I'm
