Anne Paulk, the wife of fallen “ex-gay”
John Paulk, won't discuss her “personal struggle” in her
marriage.
Last month, John, once one of the most
visible spokespeople of the “ex-gay” movement, renounced the
therapy and said that he's still gay.
John appeared on the cover of Newsweek
in 1998 under the headline Gay for Life? Going Straight: The
Uproar Over Sexual “Conversion.” In the article, he promoted
the “ex-gay” ministry he founded, Love Won Out, and claimed that
like himself and his wife Anne, people can and do alter their
sexuality.
John's status in the movement
diminished greatly in 2000 when Wayne Besen publicized spotting him
at a gay bar in Washington D.C.
“Today, I do not consider myself
'ex-gay' and I no longer support or promote the movement,” John
wrote in an open letter. “Please allow me to be clear: I do not
believe that reparative therapy changes sexual orientation; in fact,
it does great harm to many people.”
Anne appeared on Daystar's Joni
Table Talk to promote the ex-gay ministry Restore Hope Network,
all the while keeping quiet about her impending divorce and John's
renunciation.
Anne told host Joni Lamb that according
to her “study,” homosexuality is caused by sexual abuse.
“Sixty-six percent of [lesbian] women
had incurred sexual abuse early on in their lives and astoundingly
ninety percent of the girls who were leaving homosexuality had
expressed that they had been a witness to sexual abuse or physical
abuse or serious emotional abuse or any number of serious verbal
abuse,” Anne said. (The video is embedded on this page. Visit

Lamb asked the audience to pray for
Anne's marriage.
“Anne you're going through a personal
struggle right now in your marriage and we don't have to get into the
details of that,” Lamb said. “But I know those of you who that
have watched me, you love this couple and you are believing for God's
best for them.”
