Less than a week before the Boy Scouts
of America (BSA) is set to decide whether to allow openly gay scouts,
John Stemberger says anything with the word gay is “inappropriate
for kids.”
Next Thursday, the roughly 1,400 voting
members of the Scouts' National Council will consider a BSA proposal
to end the organization's ban on openly gay scouts, but not leaders.
Stemberger, the founder of
OnMyHonor.net, the coalition of Christian conservatives formed to
lobby the Scouts on the issue, and the president of the Florida
Family Policy, a group opposed to gay rights, told Tim Wildmon of the
American Family Association that ban opponents simply want to “flaunt
their sexuality [and] promote political, social agenda” to
children.
He
continued, “You look at anything that has the word 'gay' on it
in our culture. A gay magazine, a gay blog, a gay website, a gay
parade, you name it, it's gonna be guaranteed to be inappropriate for
kids. And that's what we're talking about. We're talking about
injecting hyper-sexuality and a leftist political agenda right into
the veins of the Boy Scouts and it will utterly devastate it.”
