Singer Adam Lambert on Saturday was
presented with an award honoring his gay advocacy at the 24th
Annual GLAAD Media Awards in San Francisco.
Spice Girls' Mel B presented Lambert
with the group's Davidson/Valenti Award, which is named after Craig
Davidson, GLAAD's first executive director, and his partner Michael
Valentini, and is presented to an openly LGBT media professional who
has made a significant difference in promoting gay rights.
“His rise as one of the world's best
selling pop stars proves to everyone that you can be yourself, your
individual, unique, perfect self and succeed in this industry,” Mel
B said in introducing Lambert.
“Adam is ridiculously talented,
fearless and fantastic,” she added with a finger snap.
In accepting his award, Lambert noted
the differences between the current generation, which is accepting of
gay rights, and the Stonewall generation, which fought on the front
lines of the gay rights movement.
“We're right in the middle of two
generations, with two perspectives but one common thread: Love,”
Lambert said.
“With all the differences of opinion
both within the LGBT community and elsewhere, the best we can do is
to keep it real and to spread a message of acceptance. If we can
inspire even one person to open their mind or another to be who they
want to be, whether they're gay, they're straight, they're old,
they're young, man, woman, black, or white, then it's worth being
objectified by the sometimes frustrating world of media
sensationalism,” he added. (The video is embedded on this page.

Lambert also tied with Frank Ocean for
