The online magazine Aswat is promoting
an anti-homophobia campaign in the Arab world.
The Love for All campaign is part of
the lead up to next Friday's International Day Against Homophobia and
Transphobia (IDAHO).
The annual May 17th event is
the brainchild of Louis-Georges Tin, a professor and author of a
number of books, including the Dictionary of Homophobia.
IDAHO celebrates the 1990 date homosexuality was removed from the
World Health Organization's (WHO) International Classifications of
Diseases.
Aswat's
Facebook campaign encourages citizens throughout the Arab world
to submit pictures carrying messages of solidarity.
In one picture, a person holds up a
sign which reads, “Homophobia has no religion. I am Muslim, and I
am against homophobia.” A second sign reads, “Gay or not gay,
what does that change for you?”
U.S.-based gay rights activists Maher
al Haj spoke about the campaign in an interview with Tunisia
Live.
“We are humans like others, we exist
everywhere and we deserve to be acknowledged and celebrated within
the fabrics of our societies like all other groups in society,” he
said.
