The Christian conservative group Faith
2 Action on Wednesday released a short video clip of an upcoming film
in which a teacher likens gays to smokers.
In the clip, a teacher gives a smokers
history lesson to a group of young students. She reads portions of
the book Heather has Two Cigarettes (a take off of the lesbian
book Heather has Two Mommies). The book's back cover alters
the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network's acronym (GLSEN) to
read Glad Little Smokers Enlist Now. The lesson learned is that
Heather should share her cigarettes.
When one child says she's a non-smoker,
another student accuses her of being a “smokerphobe” and the
teacher threatens punishment.
After the scene ends, the film credits
the Journal of Epidemiology as concluding that “homosexual behavior
is up to three times more dangerous than smoking.”
“We don't promote smoking in the
schools, so why would we promote something even more dangerous?”
the
film's producers ask.
Later, the film interviews Gary Glenn,
the head of the American Family Association's Michigan chapter and a
failed candidate for the U.S. Senate, who said that homosexuality
should be discouraged with campaigns similar to those against
smoking.
“If you really care and love
somebody, you don't want them to be involved in behavior that's going
to make them die earlier,” Glenn says. (The video is embedded on

A previous clip from the movie mocked
coming out by comparing
being gay to adultery.
