Jim Leyland, manager of the Detroit
Tigers, believes an openly gay professional baseball player would be
accepted.
Leyland, who led the Florida Marlins to
a World Series championship in 1997, told CNN that he could see a
professional baseball player coming out gay.
“Well, I would think that would
probably happen,” Leyland said. “I mean, it's 2013. You know,
it is what it is. I think there's probably a good chance that would
happen.”
“Would that person be accepted?”
Carol Costello asked.
“I would assume so,” Leyland
answered.
“Really?”
“I would assume so. I think that …
you know, there may be some people offended by it but like I say it's
2013. Things are a little bit different. And I can't answer that
question for sure, but I'm just saying that I think that it probably
would happen. It probably could happen. And I would say that the
way people are in America today, it would probably be acceptable,”
he said.
