Waving rainbow flags and signs, about 140 people on Saturday marched for gay marriage in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

The March for Equality was sponsored by Vote Equal, which is looking to put the issue of marriage equality up to a vote in the state.

The protesters circled downtown Grand Rapids, starting and ending their march at Rumors Night Club on S. Division Ave.

Robin Becker, a straight ally, carried a bright pink sign which read, “3 words that will save the economy Gay Bridal Registry,” with a “duh” hung on one corner.

Chris Silva, who organized the march and heads Vote Equal, said that supporters have momentum on their side, but added that he is a little nervous about two related cases going before the Supreme Court next week.

“Either way, the trend is seeking same-sex marriage and an end to LGBT discrimination,” Silva told Michigan Live. “We're still going to pull ahead on these issues.”

Vote Equal, formerly Marriage Michigan, is looking to put the issue of marriage equality up to a popular vote in 2016.
