An ad in support of gay marriage features the Very Rev. Gary Hall, the dean of the Washington National Cathedral.

The 30-second ad produced by the Respect for Marriage Coalition was released on Friday, just days before the U.S. Supreme Court is set to hear oral arguments in two cases related to the issue.

“A growing majority of Americans have come to believe it's time to allow marriage for gay and lesbian couples,” a male announcer says in the ad before a series of people talk about their gay family members, friends and neighbors.

Hall says in the ad that he supports equal marriage because of “a couple in my ministry.” (The video is embedded on this page. Visit our video library for more videos.)

The ad is expected to air during the Sunday morning talk shows on stations in Washington.

In January, Hall announced that the National Cathedral will allow gay and lesbian couples to marry in church ceremonies.

“I think marriage equality is the major social justice issue of this moment and I think it's important for us to lead on it in our church and in the cathedral,” Hall said during an appearance on cabler Current's The War Room.
