Fran Drescher has said that her
ex-husband Peter Marc Jacobson, who is gay, was against a divorce.
Drescher and Jacobson created and
produced the long-running CBS sitcom The Nanny, which starred
Drescher as Fran Fine, a Jewish working class woman from Queens who
creates chaos when she lands a job looking after the children of an
upper class Broadway producer in New York.
The couple have reunited to produce
cabler TV Land's hit sitcom Happily Divorced, which is loosely
based on Drescher's life following her divorce from Jacobson in 1999
after 21 years of marriage.
Appearing on Anderson Live,
Drescher said that Jacobson was furious at her after the pair
divorced.
“He didn't want to get divorced?”
host Anderson Cooper asked.
“No,” Drescher answered. “And he
moved to New York 'cause he couldn't get far enough away from me. He
was so mad at me for ruining, you know, the marriage.”
“Wait a minute,” Cooper chimed in.
“He was gay and he said that you ruined the marriage?”
“I know. Denial: It ain't just a
river in Egypt,” Drescher quipped. She added that her husband's
sexual orientation was not to blame for the divorce. (The video is
