James Franco has revealed that he lost
three advertising opportunities over recent gay-themed movies he
participated in.
Franco, the star of Oz the Great and
Powerful, premiered Kink and Interior. Leather Bar
in January at Sundance. Both films include what Franco described as
“queer themes.”

At Sunday's premiere of Harmony
Korine's Spring Breakers at South by Southwest, Franco, who
also stars in the film, pointed to the advertising loss as an
instance of homophobia.
“I did three sex related projects at
Sundance this year,” Franco said on the red carpet. “One was
directly gay themed or you could say queer themed and one had some
queer themes in it. And I've lost three kind of advertising
campaigns now because the companies don't like, they say they don't
like my image. But I know it's directly related to the films that I
put out at Sundance. So, you could say that there is still this kind
of homophobia or prejudice against certain kinds of material in
mainstream cinema.” (The video is embedded on this page. Visit
