Fallon Fox, the first mixed martial
arts (MMA) fighter to come out transgender, has said that reaction
has been mostly positive.
Questions about her gender from a
reporter prompted Fox, 37, to come out transgender last week.

During an appearance on CNN, Fox said
she transitioned in 2006 and began fighting two years later.
When asked to respond to her critics
who have said it's not fair for Fox to fight women when she was born
a man, Fox answered: “It's completely fair.”
“The medical community stands behind
me on that, in that there's no unfair competitive advantages, which
is the arguments of some who oppose my competition have said,” Fox
said.
Fox said that she was not surprised by
the reaction.
“It doesn't surprise me that much. I
think that some people have a tendency not to pay attention to
science in general, which is the way that we find out about the world
around us. It's just a thing that happens to human beings. But I
think for the most part, the reaction has been positive. It's just
that some of society doesn't get it yet.” (The video is embedded
