Illinois State Senator Kyle McCarter
called the legalization of gay marriage “discriminatory” in his
remarks to colleagues before the Senate approved such a bill on
Thursday and passed it to the House for further consideration.

McCarter, a Republican, repeated his
remarks in a post-debate Facebook post: “To redefine marriage is
discriminatory towards those who hold the sincerely held religious
belief that it is a sacred institution between man & a woman.”
On the Senate floor, McCarter said
passage of the measure would “jeopardize freedom rather than
expanding it” because it would “take away the right of many.”
For a brief few hours on Thursday,
Wikipedia page labeled him a “bigot” for his remarks.
McCarter is “a bigot who opposes
SB0010, a bill to allow equal marriage in the state of Illinois,”
the online encyclopedia stated.
