Ellen DeGeneres on Thursday called the
Boy Scouts of America's (BSA) policy banning gay scouts and leaders
“heartbreaking.”
On Wednesday, the BSA decided to delay
until May a decision on whether to end its national policy and allow
local chapters to decide the issue.

Scouts delay decision on lifting gay ban.)
“Now I realize that this is a big
decision for the Boy Scouts, because if the Boy Scouts start treating
gays equally they're going to become the first group to do it –
after the Army, the Navy, the Air Force, the Marines, the Coast
Guard, all of the United Kingdom and Cher,” DeGeneres said during
her monologue on her nationally syndicated talk show.
“Obviously, I think that the Boy
Scouts should allow gay members,” she added. “The fact that they
don't is insane. … I hope when [they] finally decide to take
action, they make the right decision.” (The video is embedded on
