Playing at the Sundance Film Festival
in Park City, Utah is Concussion, the story of a bored lesbian
wife who turns to prostitution.
Abby (played by Robin Weigert) is a
42-year-old mother of two who turns to lesbian prostitution after she
is hit on the head with a ball. Her new occupation is a dangerous
counterpoint to her stale, sexless marriage to another woman (Julie
Fain Lawrence).
Abby beds women for money in a
Manhattan loft. The escape, however, begins to threaten Abby's
mental health and marriage.
Writer-director Stacie Passon, who is
making her feature debut at Sundance, told the Los
Angeles Times that the movie was not about prostitution but
about life and living with the choices we make.
“It's impossible to know when you're
25 years old what marriage looks like when you're 40,” Passon said.
“Marriage is hard. And things happen.”
She described her protagonist as “a
starving person” and “someone who didn't know she was starving
for a long time.”
