Wisconsin Rep. Paul Ryan on Friday
reiterated his support for the Employment Non-Discrimination Act
(ENDA), which would outlaw workplace discrimination based on sexual
orientation and gender identity.
When asked by ThinkProgress.org his
position on the measure, Ryan said, “Oh, ENDA. I voted for that
before.”
“My position is very clear on ENDA,”
he said.
Ryan, a Republican, could not answer
why most Republicans don't support the bill: “I think it's just,
there are Republicans who support ENDA. I was one of them. I don't
know the answer to the question.” (The video is embedded on this

ThinkProgress.org
disagreed with Ryan, saying his position wasn't all that clear. His
2007 vote for the bill is his lone accomplishment on gay rights. And
Ryan personally lobbied the bill's sponsor, former Massachusetts Rep.
Barney Frank, to strip transgender protections from the measure.
During the 2012 presidential campaign, Ryan, Mitt Romney's running
mate, refused to say whether he would vote for a trans-inclusive
version of the bill.
