ABC is being criticized for celebrating
Sam Champion's weekend marriage to Rubem Robierb.
Champion, the weather anchor for Good
Morning America (GMA), and photographer Robierb married Friday in
New York City.
The wedding was reported on Friday and
Monday on GMA and on Saturday on ABC's World News Tonight.
Those reports did not sit well with
conservative site Newsbusters.org.
“No one in America opposes gay
marriage, apparently,” Tim Graham noted.
Graham incorrectly pointed to a GMA
segment in which the cast congratulated Champion on his engagement.
“On Friday morning before the event,
the praise bottle was already opened,” Graham noted pointing to the
segment which originally ran in October.
On Monday, Lara Spencer, who attended
the ceremony, called it “great news” and “the best news of
all.”
World News Tonight's Dan Harris
shared the news with a photo from the event, saying “Big
congratulations to Sam and Rubem tonight.”
Comments on the story at
Newsbusters.org
were decidedly mixed, with just as many people congratulating the
happy couple as condemning homosexuality.
