Rev. Rick Warren has suggested that the
legalization of gay marriage is inevitable.
The 58-year-old Warren is the founder
and senior pastor of the Lake Forest, California-based megachurch
Saddleback Church and the author of the best-selling book The
Purpose Driven Life.
In an appearance on CBS This
Morning, Warren was asked about his opposition to marriage
equality.
“I just – I have biblical views of
what I think marriage is about,” he said. “I am in favor of not
redefining marriage – I'm not. It's not illegal to have a gay
relationship in America. And so, it's not a big issue for me.”
When host Norah O'Donnell stated that
Americans are increasingly endorsing the issue, Warren did not
challenger her.
“Well, as a pastor, I believe in both
the good news – that I believe Jesus is who he said he was, the son
of God. But I also believe in the common good. And we're in a
democracy where nobody wins all the time, okay? For instance, I
happen to believe life begins at conception. But that's not the law,
okay?”
