Astronaut Sally Ride, Christian singer
Shawn Thomas and gay activist Donna Red Wing are slated next month to
be inducted into the GLBT Hall of Fame in Chicago.
The three nominees will be inducted on
December 19.
Ride, the first American woman in
space, passed away in July at the age of 61 after losing a prolonged
17-month battle with pancreatic cancer. She also held the
distinction of being the youngest American in space.
Ride, often described as a private
person, did not publicly discuss her 27 year relationship with
partner Tam O'Shaughnessy.
The 44-year-old Thomas is a
contemporary Christian singer-songwriter who resides with his
partner, Brian Ladd, in West Palm Beach, Florida. Since 2003, he has
released 10 albums of mostly original Christian music.
Donna Red Wing is the executive
director of One Iowa, Iowa's largest gay rights advocate. She has
also served on Obama's kitchen cabinet on LGBT issues and was former
Vermont Governor Howard Dean's outreach liaison to the gay community.
