Jesse Tyler Ferguson of ABC's Modern
Family disagrees with gay marriage ballot initiatives.
The 37-year-old Ferguson and his lawyer
fiance, Justin Mikita, have launched Tie the Knot, which sells
limited edition bow ties to benefit organizations seeking to expand
marriage rights for gay and lesbian couples.
When asked by CNN to comment on
marriage equality supporters' wins in three states earlier this
month, Ferguson said people should not be voting on the issue.
“We don't feel like it should be an
issue that's on the ballots at all,” he said. “I mean, we'll get
it how we can get it at this point. But, you know, when the rights
of minorities are put in the hands of the majority, it just doesn't
feel right.”
“I'm so thrilled that it won in these
three states but I would like for it to just not even be on the
ballot. For it to be just a nationally accepted thing.”
“I think it will happen sooner than
later,” Mikita said. “We could possibly never have another
president candidate that doesn't support marriage equality.” (The
