Jesse Tyler Ferguson jokes that his
Modern Family co-star Sofia Vergara upstaged his engagement.
Appearing on The Ellen DeGeneres
Show, Ferguson discussed his July engagement to Justin Mikita.
He told DeGeneres that the couple got
engaged while in Mexico to celebrate Vergara's birthday.
“And so we took a few days on our own
and spent some time in Tulum by ourselves,” Ferguson said. “I
actually asked him to marry there. And then a few days later we met
up with Sofia and her group. I kind of pulled Sofia aside and I
said, 'Just so you know, Justin and I got engaged.'”
“So she said, 'Oh that's so
exciting.' And then the next day, she gets engaged on top of a Mayan
ruin and it's like international news.”
Ferguson added that Vergara insisted on
toasting her friends' engagement but that it was cut short by an
aunt's fall down a flight of stairs.
“We cannot catch a break here,”
